The IEEE Computer Society GUB Student Branch Chapter, in collaboration with the IEEE GUB Student Branch, successfully organized a three-day interactive workshop on "GIS & Remote Sensing" from July 29 to July 31, 2026. The event was designed to bridge the gap between theoretical geospatial concepts and practical industry applications for the students of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and other related disciplines.
The workshop was conducted by Mr. Abdullah Al Nahid, an expert in the field, who guided participants through the fundamentals of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing. Over the three days, students engaged in intensive sessions covering the complete GIS workflow, including spatial and non-spatial data handling, understanding coordinate systems, georeferencing, digitizing, and creating professional, publication-ready digital maps using ArcGIS software.
The hands-on approach of the workshop allowed students to work on live demonstrations and practical exercises, enabling them to acquire valuable technical skills. Participants gained deep insights into the real-world applications of GIS in critical areas such as environmental monitoring, urban planning, disaster management, and advanced research.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation and active engagement from the students, fostering a rich environment for learning and discussion. The program concluded with a vote of thanks to the keynote speaker, Mr. Abdullah Al Nahid, for his invaluable contributions and dedication to mentoring the next generation of technologists.
The IEEE CS GUB SBC extended its heartfelt gratitude to the university administration and faculty members for their continuous encouragement and support, which motivates the chapter to organize more impactful technical programs.
