Mr. Md. Abdul Hai, Lecturer in Sociology and Anthropology Department, Green University of Bangladesh, recently has authored a book entitled ‘Performance Appraisal Effectiveness – An Evaluation of McDonald’s in the UK’.

In the book ‘Performance Appraisal Effectiveness – An Evaluation of McDonald’s in the UK’ the author has assessed on the effectiveness of performance appraisal effectiveness. Originally this book is derived with minor modifications from the author’s MSc dissertation in the UK. According to the author there has been a continuous debate throughout the world about the effectiveness of performance appraisal (PA) that even have forced different scholars to search for alternatives by abolishing PA. However, to many if a performance appraisal is executed properly by the appraisers without being biased, it is then can be regarded crucial for organizations. This Masters Dissertation therefore presents an evaluation of the effectiveness of employee performance appraisal considering the reactions of both the appraisers and appraisees with special emphasis on the bottom-up or employee oriented perspective and organizational justice system of PA using McDonald’s as a case company in the UK. At the end of the dissertation a model for the ongoing expected and effective performance appraisal especially for the mentioned company was developed on the basis of the theoretical and empirical grounds. This dissertation therefore, is considered to be helpful to the HR officials, academicians, professionals and researchers.


Mr Hai’s personal record tells that he obtained BSS and MSS degrees in Sociology from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh with 1st Class and in the UK he had an MSc in International Business Management from the University of Gloucestershire with a Merit position, followed by brilliant academic results and extracurricular activities in his earlier studies. He had working experience as street educator, research assistant, research associate, research officer, project coordinator and AMD in different organizations in Bangladesh before he went for higher degree in the UK. He had teaching experience as Lecturer in Business Management in London College of Business Management and Computing Studies (LCBMCS) in the UK as well. His interest mainly in street children, pavement dwellers, indigenous people, and employee performance appraisal was evident in his previous academic and work records. He is the editor and translator of the book ‘We and the Street Children’ (ISBN: 9843206029, 9789843206022).
